AI-Assisted Research Platform: University Collaboration

A collaborative research project implementing Gloomlab's AI research assistant to accelerate literature review and hypothesis generation for graduate-level computer science research.

The Challenge

Graduate students and faculty were spending 60-70% of their research time on literature review and data synthesis across multiple databases and publications. The manual process of identifying relevant papers, extracting key insights, and connecting research threads was becoming a bottleneck for innovative research. Traditional search tools provided limited semantic understanding of research contexts.

Our Solution

Gloomlab partnered with the university to develop and test an AI research assistant platform. The system was designed to understand research contexts, automatically identify relevant publications, extract key methodologies and findings, and suggest potential research directions. We implemented the pilot with 15 graduate students across 3 research groups, focusing on AI/ML and cybersecurity research domains.

Results

During the 5-month collaboration: 50% reduction in literature review time, identification of 40% more relevant papers per research query, and generation of 12 novel research hypotheses that led to 3 funded research proposals. The platform processed over 50,000 academic papers and assisted in the completion of 8 graduate theses. The university is exploring licensing our platform for broader academic use and considering a formal research partnership.
